Some beautiful misty mornings this week, although the days are hitting near 30 already.  The snakes are out and about, a huge echidna has been lumbering around the driveway, a bandicoot dug up my sweet potatoes, and koalas are keeping us up at night with their grunting noises.  Our 3 second Spring has arrived. Tomorrow it will be Summer.

Oh and the possums attacked the passionfruit. But I think that may have been a revenge killing for my Tasmanian possum beanie.

This has been a massive writing week for me and my eyeballs feel like sandpaper right now, but I still have a couple of Finished Objects.

One is another Metallicus Tee (not sure if it’s weird to keep knitting your own pattern? It’s kind of good for the weather around here though.) 

   
   
This one is in Rowan Calmer, which for a long time was my faaaaaavourite yarn and is now discontinued. Boohoo. It’s super soft and a pleasure to knit with. It’s 80% cotton, 20% microfibre. My gauge was more of a DK, so I knit the XL to get a small. This one has the capped sleeve finish. It took a lot longer to knit with the finer yarn, but I’m very happy with the fit. These pics are unblocked.
I also saw this free pattern come up this week from Berroco, Anastasia, and loved it. I had actually been looking for a shawl pattern, but I used to knit a lot of lace edgings for linen tablecloths etc., so this design really appealed to me. 
  
I used a standard DK pure wool for the edging, and Sirdar’s Softspun Chunky for the body of the scarf (yay for sparkles!). It is a super quick knit. Of course, I changed the size and a couple of other things, but it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t mess with it completely unnecessarily. 

   
   
I did eight repeats of the lace and picked up 50 sts along the top edge. And I picked up and knit each side up to the middle and then grafted them together, instead of the weird way the pattern had you doing it, sewing it onto the other lace piece at the end.

  
I’m really happy with this one. Snuggly. 🙂
Not an FO, but my Finland Sweater tiptoes downward at lunchtimes and in the evenings, and I am really enjoying it. This yarn really smells like sheep. I would call this an intermediate pattern, there is a fair bit going on in every row and some short rows etc. 

  
Something new for me is the turned front edge, with buttonholes worked as you go. I realised after I started knitting that this means no finishing on this one. Woohoo! Not a band or a seam in sight. 🙂

    • I tend to forget you don’t have such things over there, yes it’s not for everybody! Winter is much quieter. I was going to say ‘You know you live in Queensland when you’re at a supermarket checkout and a scorpion crawls out of your purse’ but more accurately it’s ‘You know you live in Queensland when you’re at a supermarket checkout and a scorpion crawls out of your purse and the checkout person sniffs nonchalantly at it and waits while you try and extricate your cash’. 🙂

Wow love the tee..nice colour and looks soo neat..It’s really beautiful..The scarf has come out really well and love the lace trimmings..At the beginning I was actually imagining the koalas at night and the wonderful weather but the thought of bandicoots and snakes is actually scary.. Hope you get some rest.. 😊

    • Thank you very much! 🙂 I just uploaded the project to ravelry, hopefully there are some more projects to look at soon, it has been queued a few times! Oh calmer, how I miss it too 😦 such a pleasure to knit with. My stash is down to 2 balls of a sage green now, will have to find something special that is worthy of it :))

  4. Fabulous finished projects Bianca! I do love your Tee and think it a pity I am not a tad younger or I would be strutting my stuff in that little beauty! But the lace edge shawl = Mmm-mmm! I followed the links and downloaded me that one! I love lace and can’t wait to knit that up – after the current three wp’s are completed and the other queued items are seen to…………… It does look like summer is already with you – that sky is such a beautiful blue and there is obviously no breeze at all judging by the sleek hang of the lace scarf. We are having ‘changeable’ weather which means four seasons in one day, or more if the weather gods are feeling a tad fickle.

    • Thanks so much Pauline! 🙂 I’m glad you’re thinking about the scarf too, was a really satisfying project and quite quick too. The photos of the scarf were taken today and you know I was so busy trying to capture the sparkles in the wool I never even noticed the sky! What a colour! 🙂 I will take more notice tomorrow. Changeable weather can be a pain, though I would be very jealous of your temperatures no doubt 🙂 looking forward to seeing your wips as they are completed! 🙂

  7. Beautiful work! It’s not weird at all to knit your own pattern–clearly it’s something you like that suits you. Plus, I doubt you knit it the same way twice, so every iteration is a small evolution.

    I love the combo of the two greys on your scarf. It looks very chic.

  8. Wow you’ve been busy! I love the shawl:) I’m about to cast on my first metallicus tee, I’m going to knit it with wool because, well it’s winter here and I want to make it longer, like a little dress, do you mind? 🙂 then I ll knit another one as a tee 🙂

  9. I will be laid up for a few weeks and need a simple-ish knitting project. I’ll pop over to Ravelry and have a look at what you’ve got for something in the chunky weight. Love the description of spring wildlife in Queensland.

  14. That’s another reason to wrangle the thick toothpicks right there ma’am. Cheers for the knitty lure. Free patterns are my sweets and I am edging more and more over to the knitty side with every post that I read. That scarfy-shawl is going to look scrumptious with that glorious Finland cardie. Knitting seems to be a whole lot more precise than crochet. I am a mathophobe so I am thinking my brain might hurt if I took it up but what the heck…this stuff looks scrumptious and NO HOLES! 😉

    • Hahahaha thank you, yes knitting doesn’t have quite the freedom of crochet, but the resulting fabric can be so lovely…don’t get me started on free patterns….:)) my iPad is FULL of them!! I couldn’t knit them all if I live to be 300!!
